January 27: Freebie! I chose How Do You Define Your Personal Reading Tastes? (Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly from November 2022)
How would you define your personal reading tastes?
For 2022, I started using Storygraph and it’s given me an easy way to see what kinds of books I read. Here are some of my reading stats:
Top 3 Genres:
- Historical fiction
- young adult (I think this will move down some in 2023)
- contemporary
Top 3 Moods:
- emotional
- reflective
- adventurous
Book length: 65% of the books I read were between 300-499 pages. I can’t make it through long books like I used to.
Pace: 56 % of my books were medium paced
How do you pick what books to read next?
The book that I read next depends on two things, my mood and the place that I am on my TBR backlog. I have ALOT of books on my Kindle and I’ve been trying to read my oldest additions first. I don’t go in a super strict order, but I generally stick to where I should be. Every now and then I just pick a book that is catching my eye and I will read it. I also did my first NetGalley review this month. It was also the only book I’ve requested from NetGalley. I’m not sure if I will request any more because it thew me off my TBR lol. I could try to put myself on a book buying ban to catch up, but I’m kind of addicted lol. Maybe I should just do another purge. It’s been awhile.
Do your reading preferences change often?
My reading preferences seem to change as I get older. The most significant change I’ve noticed lately is that I’m starting to read less young adult books. If I do read YA, it has to be something that I’m really interested in.
