January 20: Collecting Books (Zahra The Owl)
Prompts: Do you enjoy collecting books? Do you feel like physical books are overpriced? Do you buy books after you’ve read them to add to your collection? Do you buy special edition collector sets? How invested are you in your book collection?
When I was younger, I loved to buy physical copies of books. Then life changed. After I had my daughter, I switched over to eBooks because it was just easier for me to read with a baby in tow. Now I don’t know if I will ever go back to reading print books. I like that I can read my book anywhere with the backlight to read at night, the ability to read on my phone if I forget my kindle, and the convenience of the annotation and dictionary tools.
There are also less items in my home to manage and keep clean. I’ve been working alot on minimizing the things in my home. I still buy alot of books and have almost 200 of them in my collection. 200 eBooks take up alot less space than physical books! I also never read a book more than once, so it doesn’t make sense for me to keep it after I read it. It is fun to see beautiful home libraries and book collections but I personally can’t justify it in my home. I live vicariously through social media and follow many people who have amazing collections. And I work at a library so I still get to see bookshelves every day. 🙂
