It was time for a break

I was so excited when school finally let out for Spring Break. I felt like such a sense of relief. It’s been a tough year for me and I can’t wait until the school year is over. Just a little over two months left and I will be done with my second year teaching! I am anxious for the summer to get here because I’ll be starting my new job as a librarian at the community college where I live. I AM BEYOND EXCITED! It’s an opportunity that I have been waiting several years for. Now on to what I did during my spring break!

What I read

I have been taking it a little easy with the reading this week. First, I was kind of in a reading slump since the last book that I finished, Oil and Marble. I am about halfway through Veiled in Smoke by Jocelyn Green but I put it on hold when I came across a copy of The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera at the library. I was really excited to get a chance to read this book because it’s a Newbery and Pura Belpre award winner, but I’m not sure how I feel about this book as I work my way through it. I still feel like I’m in a slump but I’ve been using this time to pursue other things. (update: read my review of The Last Cuentista)

Time to get crafty

Recently, I have been getting back into embroidery. I enjoy working on it while I watch tv or other times in the day when I want to unwind. It’s hard for me to sit and watch shows without doing anything at the same time. It get antsy. So embroidery has helped me work through my anxious feelings. I might start listening to audiobooks while I work on my projects but we’ll see. Anyways, here’s what I’ve been working on!

Family adventures

Since gas prices are so high, we didn’t end up going on any trips out of town for our Spring Break. I took my daughter to two of our local libraries and parks. It’s been nice to be able to take her places during the week. Here’s a slideshow of what we did!

What I’ve been watching

I’ve been watching alot of different shows and movies this week too. The Gilded Age and Euphoria are shows that I’ve been watching on HBOmax. I LOVE the time period of The Gilded Age, but having to wait for episodes to come out each week is tough for me to stay invested. I’m not quite sure how I feel bout Euphoria yet. I watched the final season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix and really enjoyed it. I had no idea they were working on a season 5! I’m sad that it ended but I was happy with how they closed out the series.

I’ve watched a few movies this week also. My husband and I saw the new Spiderman: No Way Home. It was a good movie and I felt alot of different emotions while I watched. It was really entertaining. I had to ask my husband questions about things that came up because there’s alot that I don’t know or remember from the whole Marvel multiverse stuff. It’s just seems so complicated for me sometimes.

My daughter and I also watched Studio Ghibli movies, My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo. I loved these two movies and haven’t seen them in a while. My daughter loved them and I was so excited that we got to share them together. Seeing them now as a parent, I just love how Studio Ghibli portrays the innocence and joys of childhood. Mei and Ponyo remind me so much of my daughter! It was so much fun to see these movies through a different lens.

How have ya’ll been doing? I hope you are finding time to rest and do fun things!
