Hello, friends! I’ve been thinking awhile about sharing some photos and info of the day hikes that I’ve taken with my husband.
In 2016 – 2017 we really caught the hiking bug and went on a few of hiking trips. Then we went on a hiatus from 2018 until now. Life kind got in the way BUT this past weekend I took my 2 year old daughter on a mini hike and it was so much fun! We just got a hiking backpack carrier so we can go on a real hike together. My daughter already loves being outside, so hiking is a perfect activity for us to do together as a family.
Davis Mountains State Park
The Davis Mountains State Park is in West Texas near Alpine and Marfa. Even though West Texas is mostly a desert area, The Davis Mountains is a nice pocket of hills and grasses. We went in April of 2017. You can find information on the state park on their website. Here are links to the park map and trails map.
The Skyline Drive Trail
The trail that we chose was the Skyline Drive Trail which is 2.6 miles one way and listed as a moderate-challenging trail. It runs along the Skyline Drive, where visitors can drive the scenic route. The hiking trail does get near the road at a few points but mostly is far enough that you are still in nature. It ends a really nice overlook which you will see in my photos. My favorite things about this trail was the beautiful grassy hills and far of views of the landscape.
