Mini Book Review: The Hound of Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle

The Hound of Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle

What It’s About:

It is set largely on Dartmoor in Devon in England’s West Country and tells the story of an attempted murder inspired by the legend of a fearsome, diabolical hound of supernatural origin. Sherlock Holmes and his companion Dr. Watson investigate the case.

My thoughts:

Awhile back, I had downloaded a bunch of classic books onto my Kindle from Project Gutenberg. I picked several from their most popular downloads and The Hound of Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle was one of them. This was the first book/story that I’ve ready by Doyle, and I surprisingly enjoyed it considering that I’m not much for classics. There were a few minor things that I didn’t care for. While I enjoyed the descriptions of the English moors, there were times that it got repetitive. I struggled to get through the dialogue and language sometimes. I would either have to re-read if it had something important or skim through it if it felt lengthy. Overall, the mystery was mostly well paced and liked following Holmes and Watson try to solve the case. One of my colleagues suggested that I try Doyle’s short stories and I actually think that I might give it a try.

Have you read this book? I’d love to hear what you thought!
