My February Book Haul

February was a good month for book purchases! I’m really excited to add these titles to my collection.

All of my books are purchased as e-books from the Amazon’s Kindle deals. I talk more about how I use Kindle deals to save money on buying books here. I acutally bought alot this month! But it’s not too bad since I got them all on sale. Now on to the books!

The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton

I’m a sucker for historical mysteries. This one is a muder mystery set in 1634 on a ship voyage from Batavia to Amsterdam.

I was curious about this one since the movie adapation with Tom Hanks came out recently.

Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese

After I recently watched the move The Grizzlies, it opened my eyes to the experiences of indigenous people in the modern world. This fictional book tells the Objiway man in 1960’s Canda.

Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson

I am excited to read this book because it takes place in the late 90’s in Brooklyn with a heavy music influence.

Frankly in Love by David Yoon

I almost passed on this one until I saw it on one of the Texas Library Association reading lists. And it has been awhile since I’ve read any books with Asian American main characters.

The Master’s Apprentice by Oliver Pötzsch

This one is supposed to be a Faust retelling and takes place in the 15th century.

Letter to My Daughter by Maya Angelou

Honestly, I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never read any of her works. I deciced to buy this one since it was on sale.

Find Layla by Meg Elison

I have never read a book about a teen that is taken by Child Protective Services. I think this book will be really interesting.

Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City by K.J. Parker

This one is supposed to be a historical fiction with alot of dry humor. It follows an engineer that is unexpectedly put in charge of defending the city.

The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo

I have always been curious about this one. I’ve heard the poetry is really good. I read Elizabeth Acevedo’s book, With Fire On High, and LOVED IT! So I decided to give this one a try too.

I have really been wanting to try a Japanese translated book. Hopefully I will like this one.

The Bone Ships by R.J. Barker

In this fantasy, sea warriors try to capture the last sea dragon with their dragon bone ships. I’ve been really missing Skyrim and hope this will be my next dragon fix!

The King’s Justice by E.M Powell

This one takes place in 12th centruy England under the rule of King Henry II. I’ve always been fascinted by the Plantaganet’s, so I’m super excited about this one!

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

I’ve seen this historical military fantasy pop up a couple of times on my WordPress reader. I don’t think I’ve ever read one quite like this.It should be interesting.

Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass

This one always comes up during Black History Month and I’ve finally decided to add it to my TBR collection.

The Short Stories of Langston Hughes by Langston Hughes

Like Frederick Douglass, I always see Langston Hughes come up in February too. I was listening to some of his recordings the other day and loved the sound of his voice.
